Bogor, the city of green or the city of green?

During the old times, Bogor was famous because of the greenish color when Bogor was viewed from the heights. The greenish color came mostly from the trees and grass which lived and grown up on the center and the corners of the city. The trees and grass created the beautiful and fresh green color and made the romantic and cool aura of the city. One good example was the Botanical Garden, the most attractive place in Bogor until now. It has lots of trees and grass which are grown on its ground and refresh the eyes of the people who look at them.

Nowadays, Bogor is still a green city either. But, it’s a pity that Bogor now has it greenish color from the public transportation cars operating in the streets of Bogor. These cars are coincidently painted green and also create the greenish color everywhere and instead of creating a cool aura, this green color creates otherwise. The most greenish color would be clearly viewed if there is a traffic jam. I’m really sure if people view Bogor from the heights now, they would be easily disappointed.

I’m proud by the fact that Bogor is known as a green city, but I also feel ashamed when I knew that the green color is unnatural. These two facts make a harmonized irony for me, as one of the students at ITB who comes from Bogor, my hometown.

The Works of Water Tanks

A house with a water supply needs a water-pipe to deliver the water through the house. If we look at the picture above, the water comes from the main pipe which is connected with the water pipes inside the house. On the picture also, we see that the water-pipe inside the house is a parallel pipe which delivers its water through different branch-pipes to various home appliances, such as the sink, the toilet, the washbasin, and the bathtub. Excluding the toilet, other appliances are provided with two different pipes which are the hot and cold water pipes.

Firstly, the water enters the house through the main pipe. On the first floor, a parallel water-pipe sends some water to the sink, meanwhile the rest of the water keeps going through the second floor. On the second floor, four parallel pipes delivered the rest of water which is going through and send them to its own place. The toilet pipe sends it to the toilet, the washbasin sends it to the washbasin, and so on. Furthermore, another parallel pipe sends an amount of water to the cold water tank to make the water cold of course. The cold water tank colds the water by lowering the temperature of the tank so that the water can be cold enough. After this process, the cold water is sent to the hot water tank to make it hot. Finally, the water from the hot water tank is going through the pipe to the bathtub.

Asinan

It has already known widely in Indonesia that one of the most famous traditional foods in Bogor is asinan. Asinan is a kind of salad poured with sauce as its topping. Despite having the name asinan (asinan is derived from the word asin, an Indonesian word which literally translated as salty in English), asinan has a unique mixture of sweet, sour and spicy taste. Asinan is made of a variation of vegetables and fruits. For example, we use vegetable ingredients such as bangkuang, sweet potato, sliced cabbage, cucumber, bean sprout and daun antanan, a kind of herb. Meanwhile, from the fruits ingredients, we use kedondong, salak, unripe mango and unripe papaya. On the other way, the sauce itself is made of a blended mixture of red chili, dried shrimps, belacan paste, vinegar, salt and sugar which is boiled in a large amount of water. Sometimes, to enhance its taste, people add fried peanuts, noodle crackers, or raw chili sauce on top of it. People can eat asinan as a single-ingredient dish (vegetables only or fruits only), but also can eat it as a mixed-ingredient dish, and usually most of us eat it mixed. Actually, asinan is made as an appetizer, but mostly the people in Indonesia eat it as a dessert due to their fear that the sour taste of asinan will cause them a stomachache if they eat it before the main course.
